On June 18, 2018 the Vermillion City Council established an Historic Preservation Commission in accordance with South Dakota Codified Law 1-19B-2.

The Vermillion Historic Preservation Commission (VHPC) is a volunteer commission of the city of Vermillion. It meets monthly at City Hall, to plan and implement projects which celebrate Vermillion's history through its structures by

Mission Statement

The mission of the Vermillion Historic Preservation Commission is to protect, preserve, and restore Vermillion's historic and cultural assets through public education, workshops, and outreach to the community.

Funding Statement

The City of Vermillion as a Certified Local Government (CLG) receives grants from the National Park Service, Department of the Interior through the South Dakota State Historic Preservation Office. VHPC commissioners and city staff contribute match for these annual grants to fund projects that support historic preservation efforts in our community.

Under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 the U. S.
